A tragic road accident in Londiani along the Kericho Highway claimed the lives of five people in the early hours of Saturday morning. The incident involved a collision between a 14-seater matatu and a truck.

The Kenya Red Cross, providing an update on the situation, reported that 10 individuals sustained injuries in the accident. "The scene of the accident was cleared by the police. Ten casualties were evacuated to Molo and Londiani sub-county hospitals. Unfortunately, five people (four men and one child) lost their lives," stated the Kenya Red Cross.

Earlier this week, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) revealed that 3,609 people had lost their lives in road accidents in 2023, covering the months of January to October. Although this number represents a significant drop compared to the same period last year, which recorded 3,936 fatalities, it remains a concern for road safety.

The NTSA's October Road Safety status report outlined the monthly fatalities, with January at 379, February at 340, March at 389, April at 357, and May at 340. June recorded 439 fatalities, July had 325, August 327, September 338, and October reported 330 cases. Despite the decrease, the need for continued efforts to enhance road safety and reduce accidents remains a priority.
